Dante® audio in Nimble Streamer
Nimble Streamer supports Dante® input and output
being a bridge between local production environment and Internet
Process Dante input
Nimble Streamer receives Dante audio from the local environment, handles it for further processing and generates conventional live streams.
- Decode audio and encode it into AAC, MP3 or Opus.
- Re-package into other protocols for further delivery, like SRT, RTMP, WebRTC WHEP, MPEG-TS, audio-only HLS, Icecast and others.
- Sync-up with NDI input for further precise processing (see below)
Example: Nimble Streamer gets Dante stream from within the local network, re-package it to SRT and deliver it to distant production site with high reliability and security.
Generate Dante output
Nimble Streamer can take live streams as input from Internet and create output Dante stream into local production network.
- Receive any content input via supported protocols like SRT, RTMP, MPEG-TS, Icecast, WebRTC WHIP and others.
- Generate Dante that can be used by any Dante-enabled tools.
- Precise sync-up with NDI to generate output (see below)
Example: having SRT stream from external public network, Nimble Streamer can transform it into Dante for further production on site.
Dante licenses need to be purchased separately to route Nimble with Dante-enabled devices in your network.
Synchronizing NDI® and Dante®
One of the key features of Dante integration in Nimble Streamer is the ability to sync NDI and Dante streams.
Input use case:
- Nimble Streamer takes NDI and Dante streams from local network.
- Both inputs are combined in Transcoder scenario.
- Video and audio are precisely aligned.
- In the output live streams, Nimble provides the resulting live streams with synced-up content.
Output use case:
- Nimble takes live streams with video and audio content via supported protocols.
- Video content has SEI metadata in it.
- Designated video/audio outputs are combined in Transcoder scenario.
- Nimble Streamer generates NDI and Dante streams output into local network.
- Video and audio content is precisely in sync.
Both cases provides the mechanics to make sure your audio and video are in perfect sync.
You don't need to do anything specific to make it work, just set up Dante and NDI in the same scenario.
It's a great addition to synchronizing outputs via NDI with NTP SEI metadata.
Dante in failover scenarios
Live Transcoder for Nimble Streamer allows creating hot swap and failover scenarios:
- Streams fail-over hot swap for cases when the source of main stream goes down.
You can show a tuning table or other active channel instead, until the main source comes back automatically. - Streams emergency hot swap to cover cases like U.S. EAS.
You can initiate the replacement of the main stream with something important on top by just starting the replacement stream.
Dante input streams can be used for both scenarios. The audio originated from Dante input will substitute the main audio in both cases.
The setup is the same as for other types of streams, just choose Dante source for input.
Installation and usage
Currently Dante is available in Nimble Streamer on Windows only.
To start using Dante in Nimble Streamer, users need to make the following installation of Softvelum products:
- Sign up for WMSPanel account or log in if you have it.
- Install Nimble Streamer for Windows or upgrade it to the latest version.
- Create Live Transcoder license.
- Subscribe for WMSPanel account and Transcoder license.
- Install Live Transcoder package and register the license on the server with Nimble Streamer instance.
- Follow full setup instructions to make Dante-specific setup of Nimble Streamer and Live Transcoder.
Dante requires an active license so this instruction also shows purchase and activation process.
